CM Jagan: YSRC Will Triumph Without BJP’s Support in 2024

Vijayawada: In a strong response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent criticism of the state government, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy firmly asserted that his party, the YSR Congress (YSRC), would emerge victorious in the 2024 elections without the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

During an event held in Palnadu district on Monday, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy addressed a gathering after launching the distribution of Jagananna Vidya Kanuka kits worth ₹1,042 crore among 43 lakh schoolchildren studying in government and aided schools. In his speech, he referred to his ongoing political battle against the opposition parties as a “Kurukshetra” and emphasized that he has been leading this fight independently, unlike his predecessor Chandrababu Naidu, who enjoys the support of Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan and a section of the media.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy strongly criticized Naidu for consistently making false promises before every election. He dismissed the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) election manifesto as a “kichdi” document, alleging that it was plagiarized from political parties in neighboring states. Additionally, he pointed out that the YSRC did not receive the desired support from the BJP. However, he expressed his faith in the mercy of God and the blessings of the people of Andhra Pradesh as he addressed the gathering, stating that they are the reason for the welfare measures implemented by his government in every household.

Meanwhile, YV Subba Reddy, the regional coordinator of the Jana Sena Party and chief of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Trust Board, along with ministers Karumuru Venkata Nageswara Rao and Gudivada Amarnath, criticized Amit Shah and the BJP. Subba Reddy accused the BJP of falling into the trap set by the TDP, claiming that the saffron party leaders from Delhi were merely reading out scripts prepared by the TDP leaders who had joined the BJP. Amarnath, the IT minister, also joined the criticism, alleging corruption in the proposal to disinvest the Centre’s stake in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

The BJP has been actively campaigning in Andhra Pradesh, attempting to establish a foothold in the state. While Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has previously targeted the TDP and the Jana Sena Party in his public addresses, he refrained from directly mentioning the BJP. Despite this, he has maintained a cordial relationship with the party’s national leaders and the Central government.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy urged the public not to be swayed by the opposition’s propaganda and urged them to evaluate the benefits they have received from the government’s schemes by examining their own households. He called upon the people to stand as his soldiers if they believed in the YSRC government’s achievements over the past four years.

With the 2024 elections on the horizon, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s assertive response signifies his confidence in the YSRC’s ability to secure victory independently, even without the support of the BJP. The political landscape in Andhra Pradesh appears to be heating up as various parties engage in verbal sparring and strategize to secure voter support in the upcoming elections.

In recent developments, political figures in Maharashtra have advocated for the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb, situated in Khuldabad, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. Udayanraje Bhosale, a descendant of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament, labeled Aurangzeb a “thief and looter,” urging authorities to demolish the tomb.

Maharashtra CM also in favor of Aurangzeb’s Tomb Removal

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis echoed this sentiment, expressing support for the tomb’s removal but emphasizing adherence to legal protocols. He noted that the site is under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), a designation made during a previous Congress-led administration. Fadnavis stated, “We all also want the same thing, but you need to do it within the framework of the law, because it is a protected site.”

In response to these calls, Maharashtra police have heightened security measures around the tomb to prevent potential unrest. The site is now under increased surveillance, with visitors required to present identification and adhere to stricter protocols.

This controversy underscores ongoing debates about historical narratives and cultural heritage in India, reflecting the complexities of addressing historical figures’ legacies within contemporary society.
