Noida: A 22-year-old law student from Uttar Pradesh has come forward with allegations of assault and false implication by the police in Greater Noida, resulting in his imprisonment last year. The student, belonging to the Dalit community, also claims to have been subjected to forced consumption of urine and severe beating while in police custody at Greater Noida’s Beta 2 police station.

The police have stated that they are currently investigating the claims made by the student.

Ashok Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida), who is leading the investigation, declined to comment on the matter, stating that it is currently under judicial review.

According to the law student, he had provided information to the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police regarding a sex racket operating in a spa and massage center. As a result of his tip, the woman running the establishment was arrested and detained in June 2021 at the Sector 49 police station in Noida.

The student alleges that the woman, along with her husband, who happened to be his friend, falsely implicated him in an extortion case. He claims that on November 18 of the same year, the police apprehended him outside the SNG Plaza in Greater Noida and subjected him to brutal assault at the Beta 2 police station.

Narrating his ordeal, the law student, hailing from Aligarh district, asserted, “I was confined to an upper deck room in the building where I was mercilessly beaten to the point of bleeding. Despite informing them about my fistula operation, they continued to assault me. When I pleaded for water, they forced me to drink urine from a pot found in the bathroom. I resisted and pushed the pot away, causing some of the urine to spill on me.”

The student claims that although he was detained by the police at around 1:30 pm, official records indicate his custody beginning after 5 pm.

He was granted bail after spending less than two weeks in jail, but he has since been striving to have the “false FIR” against him dismissed.

The student alleged that he has approached multiple officials regarding his case but has encountered delays in the process.

“I demand an impartial investigation into the matter. If I have done something wrong, then charge me accordingly. I possess evidence to support my case and seek justice,” said the law student, expressing his dissatisfaction with the police’s lack of action.

Recently, a couple of short video clips surfaced on social media purportedly showing the student being assaulted.

In response to the videos on Twitter, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate tweeted, “The incident is one year old. The authenticity of the videos is being ascertained, and the additional deputy commissioner of police (Greater Noida) is investigating other aspects related to the incident.”

The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as the case progresses.

Supreme Court to Review Kolkata Doctor’s Rape and Murder Case on March 17
Supreme Court of India

The Supreme Court of India, under the leadership of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, is scheduled to review the suo motu case concerning the rape and murder of a junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on March 17.

In August of the previous year, the Court addressed the tragic incident, emphasizing the critical need for enhanced safety measures for medical professionals nationwide. The Bench appealed to protesting doctors to resume their duties, assuring them of protection against any punitive actions related to their participation in the protests.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been actively probing the case. In October, they filed the initial charge sheet against Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer associated with Kolkata Police, implicating him in the heinous crime. The CBI‘s investigation suggests a potential broader conspiracy, highlighting concerns about evidence tampering during the early stages when the Kolkata Police were overseeing the investigation. Subsequently, two additional arrests were made: Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, and Abhijit Mondal, the former Station House Officer of Tala Police Station. Both are accused of obstructing the investigation and tampering with evidence.

The upcoming hearing on March 17 will further address these developments, underscoring the Supreme Court‘s commitment to ensuring justice and reinforcing workplace safety for medical professionals across the country.

Note: For a comprehensive understanding, readers are encouraged to refer to official Supreme Court records and updates from the Central Bureau of Investigation.
