Mangaluru: In a devastating incident near Jokatte Angargundi, a goods train collided with a herd of buffaloes, resulting in the death of 17 of them. The unfortunate accident occurred on Sunday midnight as the train was en route from Kankanadi station to Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF).

According to railway police sources, the collision took place when the goods train was in motion. As a result, several buffaloes were thrown into ravines, some of which were over 25 feet deep, leading to their demise.

Upon receiving the distress call, the Kadri fire and rescue personnel promptly arrived at the scene. Their swift response enabled them to save three buffaloes from the tragic fate that befell the rest of the herd.

The loss of these innocent animals has left a mark of sorrow and grief in the local community. Buffaloes hold significant economic value for many individuals, particularly in rural areas where they serve as important livestock for agricultural purposes.

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the collision. It remains unclear how the buffaloes strayed onto the train tracks, leading to the unfortunate collision with the passing goods train. Such accidents highlight the need for increased vigilance and measures to prevent the intrusion of animals onto railway tracks.

This incident serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of maintaining the safety of both human and animal life around railway lines. Efforts should be made to enhance awareness among the local population regarding the potential dangers posed by railway tracks and to implement measures to mitigate such accidents in the future.

As the community mourns the loss of these buffaloes, steps must be taken to prevent similar incidents and ensure the safety of both wildlife and the railway network.

Reports indicate a surge in sightings of individuals believed to be associated with Maoist groups, prompting ANF jawans to bolster their presence in the region.

On Thursday, yet another sighting of a suspected Naxalite was reported from a heavily wooded area within the forest. Eyewitness accounts from a worker in the rubber plantation suggest the presence of an unfamiliar woman in the vicinity, igniting efforts to locate her amidst the dense foliage.

The ANF has wasted no time in responding to these reports, deploying teams to conduct thorough searches across the Ainekidu and Koojimale estate areas. Sources within the ANF have hinted at the possibility of lingering Naxalite presence along the fringes of the Pushpagiri forest sanctuary, underscoring the importance of vigilance in this region.

Confirming the gravity of the situation, ANF sources have acknowledged receiving multiple complaints regarding the presence of unidentified individuals in the Sampaje-Koojimalai corridor. This surge in activity has prompted the ANF to fortify its operations, ensuring a proactive approach to combat any potential threats posed by Naxalite elements.

As the ANF remains steadfast in its mission to maintain peace and security in the region, residents of Koojimalai and surrounding areas can take solace in the concerted efforts being made to address the looming specter of Naxalism.
