In a shocking incident that unfolded two months ago, a female student was allegedly subjected to a horrifying gang rape within the confines of the IIT-BHU campus. The disturbing event has prompted widespread public outcry, and recent developments indicate a political undercurrent that has further ignited controversy.

The incident transpired on the night of November 1, near the Karman Baba temple. The victim, who had ventured out with a friend, was accosted by three men on a motorcycle. In a brutal act, they forcibly separated her from her companion, took her to a secluded spot, and subjected her to a harrowing ordeal. The perpetrators allegedly stripped her, recorded a video, and took photographs before releasing her after approximately 15 minutes, having obtained her phone number.

Prompted by the victim’s courage, an FIR was registered under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act at the Lanka police station. Subsequently, the charge of gang rape was added to the FIR, leading to the arrest of three individuals: Kunal Pandey, Anand alias Abhishek Chauhan, and Saksham Patel.

The arrests, however, have become a focal point of political contention, with opposition parties directing criticism towards the BJP-led government. Allegations have emerged that the accused have affiliations with the ruling party, intensifying the scrutiny on the government’s handling of the situation.

Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai, in a statement, asserted, “For the BJP, ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ is just a slogan.” He directly implicated Kunal Pandey, identified as the convener of the Mahanagar IT cell of the BJP, and Saksham Patel, purportedly the personal assistant to Dilip Patel, Kashi zone president of the BJP. Rai characterized this as the “evil face” of the BJP, calling it shameful.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav joined the chorus of criticism, claiming that those arrested for the heinous crime were part of a new wave of BJP workers enjoying the protection of senior leaders. He contended that the government’s action was necessitated by compelling evidence and mounting public anger.

In a scathing remark, Yadav stated, “Every woman across the country is seeing how the BJP is playing with women’s dignity and protecting those accused of atrocities, harassment, and rape.” He predicted that women would withhold their votes from the BJP in upcoming elections, signaling a potential electoral backlash against the party.

The Samajwadi Party emphasized the perceived vulnerability of sisters and daughters in the state, squarely blaming BJP affiliates for the threat. Demanding the strictest punishment for the culprits, the party highlighted the urgency of ensuring the safety of women in the region.

Amid the political fracas, ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad), a student organization affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, expressed its concern. ABVP state media coordinator Abhinav Mishra urged the police to swiftly file a charge sheet and take action against those who shielded the accused for two months. The organization also called upon the BHU administration to implement measures ensuring the safety of everyone on the campus.

As the investigation unfolds and political tensions rise, the case has not only spotlighted the challenges of women’s safety on campuses but has also become a flashpoint for broader political debates surrounding law and order in the state. The outcome of this case is likely to reverberate in both legal and political spheres, shaping public opinion and potentially influencing future electoral dynamics.

the Opposition BJP has strongly criticized the Congress government for the blast at Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru, attributing it to what they term as “appeasement politics.” They have called for a thorough investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), highlighting their concerns over the safety of citizens.

Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe Blast

Prominent BJP leaders have been vocal in linking the blast with what they perceive as the Congress’ support from minority communities. State president B Y Vijayendra pointed out the alleged “My Brother” policy of the Congress, referring to Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar’s reported remarks addressing the accused of the Mangaluru cooker blast as “my brother.” Vijayendra emphasized that such politics of minority appeasement is endangering the safety of citizens.

The BJP leaders further cited a series of incidents that they claim occurred under the Congress regime, including the targeting of Hindu homes during Tipu Jayanti celebrations and the raising of pro-Pakistan slogans inside the Vidhana Soudha. They assert that the blast at Rameshwaram cafe is an extension of this trend, linking it to the earlier incident of “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans being raised.

Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka condemned the Congress’ appeasement politics, alleging that it promotes a mentality of safeguarding irrespective of actions. He urged against turning Bengaluru into “Bomb Bengaluru” and called for responsible governance.

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya criticized the Congress government’s handling of the situation, questioning their preemptive narratives and vote-bank compulsions. He urged for a fair investigation without biases.

BJP national general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh lamented the consequences faced by Bengaluru and Karnataka due to what he perceives as the extreme appeasement policies of the elected government.

In conclusion, the BJP’s stance on the Bengaluru blast underscores their concerns regarding the alleged appeasement politics of the Congress. They advocate for a transparent investigation to ensure the safety and security of citizens, emphasizing the need for accountable governance.

Business owners and operators in Bengaluru are urged to take prompt action to ensure their nameplates meet the mandated language requirements.
