Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh: In a surprising turn of events ahead of the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, MLA Virendra Raghuwanshi made a significant announcement on Thursday by resigning from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Raghuwanshi, representing the Kolaras assembly seat in Shivpur district, cited feeling “ignored” within the party as his reason for this decision.

Addressing a letter to the Madhya Pradesh BJP president, Vishnu Dutt Sharma, which was later unveiled during a press conference in Shivpuri, Raghuwanshi expressed his discontent, emphasizing that he had voiced his concerns to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other top party leaders over the last three to five years. Regrettably, he claimed, his concerns went unheeded.

Raghuwanshi went on to allege that dedicated party workers like himself in the Gwalior-Chambal division were being marginalized by newly arrived BJP members, despite their unwavering commitment during the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Furthermore, the MLA made troubling allegations about corrupt officials being appointed in the Kolaras constituency, purportedly to obstruct the developmental projects he and his team were engaged in and to harass them.

Raghuwanshi did not spare prominent BJP leader and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in his criticism. He reminded that Scindia had left the Congress in 2020, triggering a wave of Congress legislators’ resignations to join the BJP. Raghuwanshi claimed that when the state Congress government fell in 2020, Scindia had accused the BJP of reneging on its promise to waive farmers’ loans of Rs 2 lakh. However, after the BJP came into power, Raghuwanshi alleged, Scindia remained silent on the issue of loan waivers.

In his letter, Raghuwanshi also made grave allegations concerning corruption within the administration and government ministers. He asserted that the in-charge minister of Shivpuri district had condoned bribery, likening it to offering religious offerings in a temple.

Shifting focus to the BJP’s electoral promises, Raghuwanshi criticized the party for its lack of action in improving the welfare of cows despite seeking votes in the name of ‘Gaumata.’ He asserted that many cowsheds constructed for the welfare of cows remained non-functional.

When questioned about the BJP’s prospects in the forthcoming assembly elections, Raghuwanshi pessimistically stated, “All newly appointed ministers and MLAs who have joined the BJP will not be able to salvage the party. They will sink the party, and no one will be able to rescue it.”

In response to these developments, senior Congress leader and former Union minister Arun Yadav issued a statement, announcing that Virendra Raghuwanshi is set to join the Congress on September 2nd.

a prominent doctor in Bengaluru‘s western region, Dr. Nikhil Gopalakrishnan, was apprehended by officials from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on charges related to the procurement and consumption of hydro ganja. This arrest sheds light on the pervasive issue of substance abuse and its intricate networks in the city.

The CCB’s Anti Narcotics Wing (ANW) conducted a thorough investigation leading to the arrest of Dr. Gopalakrishnan. The authorities received concrete information suggesting his involvement in the acquisition of hydro ganja, which was reportedly dispatched to him via international mail from the Netherlands. Initial inquiries indicate that Dr. Gopalakrishnan purportedly utilized the contraband solely for personal consumption. However, the investigation is ongoing to ascertain the means through which he procured the substance and identify potential collaborators in his activities.

Dr. Gopalakrishnan’s origins trace back to Tamil Nadu, and he has been residing in the Yeshwantpur area of northern Bengaluru. This incident underscores the prevalence of substance abuse across various demographics within the city, irrespective of professional backgrounds or residential locations.

This arrest also draws attention to the broader issue of international connections in drug-related activities. Notably, the case of an international hacker known as Srikrishna, alias Sriki, who was previously apprehended for similar offenses involving hydro ganja procurement using cryptocurrencies earned through hacking government websites, exemplifies the transnational nature of such illicit operations.

In parallel investigations, the ANW has successfully apprehended three foreign nationals involved in drug peddling activities, seizing a substantial quantity of contraband valued at Rs 2.3 crore. The arrested individuals, identified as Chainasa Cyprilan Okoye and Kalu Chukwa from Nigeria, along with Emmanuel Kwasy from Ghana, highlight the diverse origins of individuals implicated in drug-related offenses within Bengaluru.

These arrests underscore the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in combating the proliferation of narcotics within the city. The peddlers, exploiting vulnerable segments of society such as college students, operate within a complex network that spans international borders. Efforts to dismantle these networks require diligent investigation and collaboration among various agencies.

The CCB’s seizure of MDMA crystals, ecstasy pills, and hydro ganja, along with the confiscation of mobile devices used by the suspects, reflects a concerted effort to disrupt the supply chain of illicit substances and bring perpetrators to justice.

As the investigations progress, it becomes imperative for authorities to not only apprehend individuals involved in drug-related activities but also implement preventive measures and rehabilitation programs to address the root causes of substance abuse in Bengaluru. The collective efforts of law enforcement agencies, coupled with community engagement initiatives, are essential in creating a safer and healthier environment for all residents of the city.
