Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao inaugurated the Puneeth Rajkumar Hriday Jyoti Yojana today in Dharwad, marking a significant milestone in cardiac care in Karnataka. This initiative aims to prevent sudden cardiac arrests, with a focus on timely intervention and life-saving treatments. Named in honor of the late Puneeth Rajkumar, this scheme embodies his spirit of compassion and commitment to saving lives.

Hriday Jyoti Yojana

The Puneeth Rajkumar Hriday Jyoti Yojana operates on a hub and spoke model, with 86 government hospitals participating across the state. Among these, 71 taluk hospitals serve as spoke centers, equipped to detect critical conditions using AI technology within minutes of a patient’s arrival. This swift identification is crucial in administering timely treatment.

At the heart of this initiative lies Tenecteplase, a vital injection effective in preventing heart attacks. Previously considered expensive, this injection is now available free of cost in government hospitals. Minister Gundurao encourages rural residents to take advantage of this life-saving opportunity, emphasizing the importance of seeking medical help at the first sign of discomfort.

Tricog’s AI technology plays a pivotal role in the early detection of heart conditions. Patients presenting with chest pain undergo an ECG test, which, when analyzed, helps predict acute heart attacks. Critical cases are immediately administered Tenecteplase at spoke centers before being transferred to super specialty hospitals for further treatment.

The success of the first phase of the Puneeth Rajkumar Hriday Jyoti Yojana underscores its effectiveness. Over 1,23,000 cardiac patients have been screened, with numerous interventions, including thrombolysis, angioplasty, and bypass surgeries, performed on those requiring immediate attention. Such proactive measures have saved countless lives, reaffirming the program’s impact.

As the initiative progresses into its second phase, expansion plans include establishing eight hubs across fifteen districts, with a focus on enhancing cardiac care in rural areas. Taluk hospitals will continue to play a vital role, providing crucial treatment to sudden heart attack patients. Moreover, the installation of Automated External Defibrillator devices in public spaces aims to further prevent sudden cardiac deaths.

In conclusion, the Puneeth Rajkumar Hriday Jyoti Yojana stands as a beacon of hope in Karnataka’s healthcare landscape. By leveraging technology, providing free treatments, and expanding access, this initiative not only saves lives but also embodies a commitment to public health and well-being. As it evolves and grows, its impact will continue to resonate across communities, ensuring a healthier and safer future for all.
