Chennai: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Nitish Rana has been fined Rs 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). This is the second offense of the season for KKR under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses. The fine also extends to each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, who will be fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee, whichever is lesser.

Details: KKR emerged victorious in the match against CSK by six wickets, enhancing their chances of securing a spot in the playoffs. CSK, on the other hand, currently holds the second position in the standings and is expected to finish in the top four.

The IPL media advisory stated that Nitish Rana, as the captain of the team, has been fined Rs 24 lakh for the slow over-rate offense. India’s only win of the day came in the mixed doubles match where the duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa defeated Malaysia’s Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing 21-19, 21-12.

India will next face Germany in their second group stage match on May 16. The Sudirman Cup, also known as the World Mixed Team Championships, is held every two years and features teams from around the world competing against each other in a mixed team format. New Delhi : The Indian Sports Ministry has put a stop to the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections scheduled for May 7th and has called for the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to form an ad-hoc committee to oversee the polls within 45 days of its formation. The ministry has also instructed the IOA to manage the WFI sports body during this interim period, including selecting athletes and making entries for international events.

The decision comes after several of the country’s top wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat, staged a sit-in protest and demanded public disclosure of the findings of the oversight panel that investigated sexual harassment allegations against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The ministry had previously formed a six-member oversight committee, headed by Olympic medallist boxer MC Mary Kom, to investigate the allegations against Singh.

In a letter to IOA president PT Usha, the ministry stated that “considering the current situation, it is expedient that the said election process should be treated as null and void, and fresh elections to the EC should be conducted under a neutral body/Returning Officer.” The ministry also disclosed that the oversight committee had submitted its report to the government and some of its findings include the absence of a duly constituted Internal Complaints Committee under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act, 2013, and a lack of adequate mechanisms for grievance redressal.

Brij Bhushan had previously confirmed that he will not contest for the president’s post but hinted that he might look for a new role within the federation during the WFI’s Emergency General Council and Executive Committee meeting in Gonda on April 16th. He has already served as WFI president for 12 years, with three terms of four years, and is ineligible to apply for the post again under the Sports Code.

The ministry has called for the IOA to make suitable interim arrangements for managing the WFI as wrestling is an Olympic sport and the WFI is an affiliate of IOA. The ministry’s decision aims to ensure that sportspersons of wrestling discipline do not suffer in any way during this interim period.
