Bengaluru: In the budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today, priority has been given to education and self-reliance of minorities and several schemes have been announced. As the central government has stopped the pre-matric scholarship (from 1st to 8th standard) given to minority students, the state government will continue this scheme and will spend Rs 60 crore. The Chief Minister said that grants will be provided.
62 minority Morarji Desai residential schools in the state will be upgraded to integrated schools from class 6 to class 12. This will benefit 13,000 students and Rs 23 crore will be provided to accommodate an additional 12,500 students by doubling the student enrollment of these 0 Morarji Desai Residential Schools. He said that 10 new minority Morarji Desai residential schools will be started in the current year.
There are 200 Maulana Azad schools in the state and it has been decided to further improve the quality of education and to provide necessary basic facilities to the schools which do not have their own building. He said that under Arivu Educational Loan Scheme for the study of minority students, loans of up to Rs.1 lakh per annum will be sanctioned at an interest rate of 2% for studying in 28 professional courses like engineering, medicine etc., admitted through CET.
With the aim of improving the knowledge of Kannada and English language among minority community students, it has been decided to set up language laboratories in all the minority Morarji Desai residential schools in the state at a cost of Rs.5 crores, skill training for minority youths in Ramnagar, Belagavi, Davangere, Kalaburagi and Dakshina Kannada districts at a cost of Rs.4 crores. He informed that the cost will be started.
The Chief Minister announced a grant of Rs.8 crore to provide two-year training from prestigious institutes to the students studying in pre-degree residential colleges of the minorities from the first year for the preparation of NEET, JET, CET and other entrance exams. 20 lakhs per student at zero interest rate to facilitate graduation and post graduation in reputed foreign universities to facilitate examination coaching through reputed institutes. He said that he will provide loan facility.
In order to provide self-employment opportunities to 10,000 unemployed people belonging to minority communities, they will receive a percentage of the loan amount from banks. 20 per cent or a maximum subsidy of Rs.1 lakh. Under the “Swavalambi Sarathi” scheme, the unemployed youth from the minority minority will be encouraged to take up self-employment by providing a subsidy of 50 per cent, up to a maximum of Rs.3 lakh, on the loan taken for the purchase of a four-wheeler, 126 Shadi Mahals and Community Bhavans. 54 crores for the construction works. Tastik amount given to non-Hindu religious organizations under the Karnataka Inam Waiver Act will be increased from Rs 48,000 to Rs 60,000. This will benefit 868 organizations receiving Tastik.
