Singrauli: A 34-year-old Tribal man was left injured after an altercation with the son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) in Madhya Pradesh took a violent turn. The incident occurred in Singrauli district of the state on Thursday evening.

The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Vivekanand Vaishya, allegedly opened fire at Surya Kumar Khairwar following a heated argument near the Budhi Mai Mata temple, approximately 25 km from the district headquarters. The incident took place around 6 pm.

According to Inspector Ashok Singh Parihar of Morba police station, a case has been registered against Vivekanand Vaishya under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act. The charges include attempt to murder (Section 307 IPC) and possessing or carrying prohibited arms (Section 25 of the Arms Act), among others.

After further investigation on Friday, additional IPC sections, such as common intention (Section 34), obscene words and acts (Section 294), voluntarily causing hurt (Section 323), and criminal intimidation (Section 506), were added. Additionally, relevant sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act were also included in the case.

Vivekanand Vaishya, who is the son of BJP MLA Ram Lallu Vaishya representing the Singrauli assembly constituency, was previously out on bail in another case. In that incident, which occurred in July last year, he had assaulted a forest guard and resorted to firing. An official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, revealed that Vaishya had surrendered before a local court in February this year after being untraceable for some time. Subsequently, he spent around 45 days in judicial custody, being treated at various government hospitals in Waidhan, Singrauli, Rewa, and Jabalpur on medical grounds before being granted bail by the High Court.

Surya Kumar Khairwar, the victim of Thursday’s shooting, suffered a gunshot wound to his right wrist and was immediately taken to the trauma ward of the district hospital. However, Inspector Parihar confirmed that Khairwar’s condition is stable.

Local residents disclosed that Surya Kumar Khairwar belonged to a tribal community, highlighting the potential implications of the incident in the context of social dynamics in the region.

The authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident to ascertain all the facts and circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Supreme Court to Review Kolkata Doctor’s Rape and Murder Case on March 17
Supreme Court of India

The Supreme Court of India, under the leadership of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, is scheduled to review the suo motu case concerning the rape and murder of a junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on March 17.

In August of the previous year, the Court addressed the tragic incident, emphasizing the critical need for enhanced safety measures for medical professionals nationwide. The Bench appealed to protesting doctors to resume their duties, assuring them of protection against any punitive actions related to their participation in the protests.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been actively probing the case. In October, they filed the initial charge sheet against Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer associated with Kolkata Police, implicating him in the heinous crime. The CBI‘s investigation suggests a potential broader conspiracy, highlighting concerns about evidence tampering during the early stages when the Kolkata Police were overseeing the investigation. Subsequently, two additional arrests were made: Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, and Abhijit Mondal, the former Station House Officer of Tala Police Station. Both are accused of obstructing the investigation and tampering with evidence.

The upcoming hearing on March 17 will further address these developments, underscoring the Supreme Court‘s commitment to ensuring justice and reinforcing workplace safety for medical professionals across the country.

Note: For a comprehensive understanding, readers are encouraged to refer to official Supreme Court records and updates from the Central Bureau of Investigation.
