Anjuman Intezamia Masajid (AIM), the Gyanvapi mosque management committee, the Allahabad High Court declined their request for an interim stay on the ongoing prayer activities inside the southern cellar of the mosque premises, known as Vyas Ji Ka Tehkhana.

The prayer sessions within the cellar commenced on January 31, 2024, in compliance with the Varanasi District Court’s order delivered on the same day, which permitted prayers by a Hindu priest designated by the Shree Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust (SKVTT).

In response to AIM’s plea against the Varanasi District Court’s January 31, 2024 order, the High Court bench, led by Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal, rejected the request for an interim stay on the ongoing prayer activities inside the cellar. Justice Agarwal pointed out that AIM had not contested the District Court’s January 17, 2024 order appointing the Varanasi District Magistrate as the receiver of the cellar.

Expressing surprise at AIM’s lack of objection to the DM’s appointment as the cellar’s receiver, who currently holds possession, Justice Agarwal instructed AIM to revise its plea and submit a fresh one challenging the Varanasi District Court’s January 17, 2024 order.

The court granted AIM until February 6 to file the amended plea and also directed the Advocate General of Uttar Pradesh to ensure law and order in the area.

It is noteworthy that, in compliance with the District Court’s January 17, 2024 order, the Varanasi DM took possession of the cellar on January 23, 2024. The Varanasi district judge, Dr. AK Vishvesha, in an order dated January 31, 2024, directed the Varanasi District Magistrate/receiver to make suitable arrangements for the performance of prayer within the steel grill surrounding the cellar.

Following the court’s directive, the district administration removed the grill and allowed the priest designated by Shree Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust to conduct the prayer, which began late on January 31 and continued until the early hours of February 1.

Subsequently, on Thursday, AIM approached the Allahabad High Court seeking a stay on the prayer activities. It’s worth noting that AIM had initially appealed to the Supreme Court of India to contest the District Court’s order allowing prayer inside the cellar and had requested an urgent hearing.

However, the Supreme Court declined an urgent hearing and directed AIM to approach the Allahabad High Court with its plea. The prayer, performed by Kashi Vishwanath temple head priest Om Prakash Mishra, took place under the supervision of Vedic Acharya Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid. The rituals included cleaning the cellar walls with Ganga Jal, followed by the Aarti of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi. The ceremonies, which commenced late on Wednesday night, concluded with the Mangla Aarti on early Thursday morning at 3 am.

the Opposition BJP has strongly criticized the Congress government for the blast at Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru, attributing it to what they term as “appeasement politics.” They have called for a thorough investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), highlighting their concerns over the safety of citizens.

Bengaluru Rameshwaram Cafe Blast

Prominent BJP leaders have been vocal in linking the blast with what they perceive as the Congress’ support from minority communities. State president B Y Vijayendra pointed out the alleged “My Brother” policy of the Congress, referring to Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar’s reported remarks addressing the accused of the Mangaluru cooker blast as “my brother.” Vijayendra emphasized that such politics of minority appeasement is endangering the safety of citizens.

The BJP leaders further cited a series of incidents that they claim occurred under the Congress regime, including the targeting of Hindu homes during Tipu Jayanti celebrations and the raising of pro-Pakistan slogans inside the Vidhana Soudha. They assert that the blast at Rameshwaram cafe is an extension of this trend, linking it to the earlier incident of “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans being raised.

Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka condemned the Congress’ appeasement politics, alleging that it promotes a mentality of safeguarding irrespective of actions. He urged against turning Bengaluru into “Bomb Bengaluru” and called for responsible governance.

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya criticized the Congress government’s handling of the situation, questioning their preemptive narratives and vote-bank compulsions. He urged for a fair investigation without biases.

BJP national general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh lamented the consequences faced by Bengaluru and Karnataka due to what he perceives as the extreme appeasement policies of the elected government.

In conclusion, the BJP’s stance on the Bengaluru blast underscores their concerns regarding the alleged appeasement politics of the Congress. They advocate for a transparent investigation to ensure the safety and security of citizens, emphasizing the need for accountable governance.
