Gurugram: A recent religious procession known as the Brajmandal Jalabhishek Yatra, organized by Hindu activists in Haryana’s Nuh, took a contentious turn as participants were reported to be in possession of swords, trishuls, and illicit weapons, despite police directives to the contrary. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Usha Kundu, in her formal complaint, detailed the breach of regulations during the event.

The ASP highlighted that prior to the yatra, discussions were held within a peace committee, where organizers were explicitly advised against carrying any form of weaponry during the procession.

Kundu’s complaint explained, “I and my team were on duty to maintain law and order approximately 300 meters from the Nalhar temple around 12.30 p.m. on July 31. We observed a group of about 15-20 individuals brandishing swords and trishuls, marching towards the Nalhar temple. In an effort to uphold public safety, my team attempted to confiscate the swords and trishuls. However, their reaction was aggressive, and they began to chant slogans against law enforcement. Regrettably, they physically confronted my team and successfully reclaimed their weapons from our police vehicles.”

“While we stored their weapons in our vehicles, they proceeded to obstruct the vehicles’ path. Another police unit arrived to mediate, but they forcibly accessed the rear compartment of our official vehicle and absconded with the confiscated weapons. The individuals involved, including Bittu and others who displayed hostility and threats towards us, were identified through available footage,” the ASP elaborated in her complaint.

The revelation gained significance following the arrest of Bittu Bajrangi, a self-proclaimed cow vigilante from Faridabad, by the Nuh Police on Tuesday. Bajrangi’s arrest is linked to communal clashes that transpired in the district on July 31.

On Thursday, Bittu Bajrangi was presented in the Nuh court, which subsequently ordered his 14-day judicial custody in Neemka jail located in Faridabad.

The police have identified an additional 15 suspects involved in the incident, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.

In the aftermath of Bajrangi’s arrest and the spotlight on the entire yatra, right-wing groups such as Bajrang Dal and VHP have distanced themselves from him, asserting that he neither holds membership nor garners support for his actions through their organizations.

An official document issued by the Nuh Police, a copy of which has been acquired by IANS, disclosed that Bajrangi has raised concerns over his safety while in Nuh Police custody. As all other detainees in the lockup are Muslims and perceived as rivals, Bajrangi claims to face a threat. Consequently, the police have formally requested to relocate him out of the district subsequent to the interrogation. The accused is currently detained in Neemka jail, situated in Faridabad.

Supreme Court to Review Kolkata Doctor’s Rape and Murder Case on March 17
Supreme Court of India

The Supreme Court of India, under the leadership of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, is scheduled to review the suo motu case concerning the rape and murder of a junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on March 17.

In August of the previous year, the Court addressed the tragic incident, emphasizing the critical need for enhanced safety measures for medical professionals nationwide. The Bench appealed to protesting doctors to resume their duties, assuring them of protection against any punitive actions related to their participation in the protests.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been actively probing the case. In October, they filed the initial charge sheet against Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer associated with Kolkata Police, implicating him in the heinous crime. The CBI‘s investigation suggests a potential broader conspiracy, highlighting concerns about evidence tampering during the early stages when the Kolkata Police were overseeing the investigation. Subsequently, two additional arrests were made: Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, and Abhijit Mondal, the former Station House Officer of Tala Police Station. Both are accused of obstructing the investigation and tampering with evidence.

The upcoming hearing on March 17 will further address these developments, underscoring the Supreme Court‘s commitment to ensuring justice and reinforcing workplace safety for medical professionals across the country.

Note: For a comprehensive understanding, readers are encouraged to refer to official Supreme Court records and updates from the Central Bureau of Investigation.
